Castine, Maine – Maine Maritime utilized a balanced offense sweep of the University of Maine-Fort Kent 3-0 in women's volleyball on Wednesday.
Ila Smith led all Mariners with 11 kills on 19 attempts to finish the night with a .526 hitting percentage. She added three blocks to the effort.
Chloe Weeks posted 10 kills, while
Sam Urch and
Sydney Williams recorded seven kills apiece. Urch five block assists, while Williams recorded three.
Katie Albritton fed the offense with 19 assists, while
Annabel Frieden contributed 14 more.
The Bengals best challenge of the evening came in the third set, which went back and forth with 12 ties. Knotted up at 18-18 in the third, the Mariners went on a 7-2 run to close out the set with the final two points coming on service aces from
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens.
Fort Kent got eight kills from M.J. Rose and seven more Sharon de Vet. Kayla Iwata posted 17 assists for the Bengals in the loss.
The Mariners closed out the regular season, moving to 18-5 on the season. The Bengals fell to 17-6.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday in the North Atlantic Conference Quarterfinals. The #1 Mariners will host #4 Maine-Presque Isle at 1:00 pm.
