CASTINE, Maine – The top-seeded Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team (20-5) downed the #4 University of Maine, Presque Isle Owls (10-17) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory.

Ila Smith, who led all Mariners with 12 kills, got the first and final kills of the first set to help secure the 25-10 win for MMA. Smith had a .526 hitting percentage and scored 12.5 points for the Mariners.

The Mariners opened the second set with a 4-0 run that included a service ace from
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens. Zuber-Stephens was the Mariner leader in service aces, ending the afternoon with four. The Mariners won set two 25-20.

The longest run of the night came in the third set. Maine Maritime scored eight-straight, fueled by three kills from
Chloe Weeks and two service aces from
Ally Hadley. Weeks finished the match with nine kills.adley

Alondra Aquino-Lopez led Presque Isle with eight kills and digs.

The Mariners now advance to the NAC Semifinals match against VTSU Johnson with a noon start time on Sunday.
