Men’s Basketball Ties Program Record with Seventeen Made Threes

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball team (2-0) tied a program record scoring 17 three pointers in a Friday night win over the University of Maine Augusta Moose (0-3). Curt Heinz led the way for the Mariners scoring 21 points in the contest, while also picking up nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and one steal.
 
The Mariners got off to a hot start scoring first with a bucket from Markus Ramirez. After the Moose answered with a bucket to tie the game at two a piece, the Mariners retook the lead with a layup from Josiah Dancy and held their lead for the rest of the contest.
 
The biggest lead of the game came in the second half after a jump shot from Seamus Raftice that put the Mariners up by 43 points.
 
In the Mariners program tying record 17 threes, Isaiah Oquendo scored a career high four three pointers and Kaden Horner also tallied four threes to lead the charge.
 
Trevor Beals led all scorers, ending with 22 points for the Moose.
 
The final score was a 113-73 victory for the Mariners.
 
Men's basketball heads on the road for their next contest against the University of Southern Maine on Nov. 13 with a start time at 7:00 pm.
