GORHAM, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners (2-1) lost their first game of the season against the University of Southern Maine Huskies (2-0), by a final score of 70-77.
Isaiah Oquendo scored a career high and led all Mariners with 18 points in the contest. Oquendo also tallied three rebounds and one assist.
The Mariners and Huskies kept it close for the first half of the contest.
Josiah Dancy scored a layup to end the half to put the Mariners up by two.
Curt Heinz sunk a layup to open the second half where he was fouled for the and-one attempt, nailing the free throw attempt. Heinz also led all athletes with 13 rebounds in the contest.
The Mariners led by as much as ten in the second half with 11:42 to go in the contest. The Huskies took the lead with 3:35 left and maintained their lead to go on and win the match.
Chance Dixon led all players scoring 32 for the Huskies, along with eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
The Mariners return home for their next match on Friday, Nov. 17 against Fisher College with a start time of 7:00 pm.
