CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team (3-3) fell to the Colby College Mules (6-1) on Tuesday night by a final score of 57-71.
Maria Barela led the Mariners with 15 points and fell just one rebound shy of a double-double ending with nine. She also tallied two assists.
The Mariners and Mules went back and forth to start the contest. The Mariners gained their solo lead of the game in the first after a made three from
Erianna Moore that put the Mariners ahead by one. With the contest tied at 10 a piece, the Mules went on a 10 point run to take the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game, with their biggest lead coming in the second where they led by as much as 21.
Along with Barela, the Mariners had two more players finish in double digits.
Grace Huntwork who completed the game with 12 and
Evelyn Dagan ended with 11.
Kate Olenik led all scorers ending with 19 for Colby along with five assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one block.
The Mariners begin North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play in their next contest on Saturday, Dec. 2 in Castine against the University of Maine-Farmington with a 3:00 pm start time.
