Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dancy Leads the Mariners in first NAC Win of the Season

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball team (5-3) earned their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win of the season over the University of Maine Farmington Beavers (4-3). This was the Mariners first win over the Beavers since the 2015-16 season.

Josiah Dancy led the Mariners with 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals in the contest. Curt Heinz also had an impressive day for the Mariners, ending with a double-double off of 13 points and 14 rebounds. Heinz also finished with five assists, two blocks, and four steals.

After finding themselves down by 2-8 in the beginning of the contest, the Mariners went on a 11 point run to take their first lead of the game. The Mariners held this lead for the entire first half. Markus Ramirez scored a layup to end the half with the Mariners up by six.

Despite the Beavers 14 point run to start the second half to help them take the lead, the combination of Dancy and Heinz scored the next eight points to put the Mariners back up by one.

The remainder of the contest was a back and forth battle between the two squads. A timely made three pointer from C.J. Lilljeqvist with just over a minute left put the Mariners back up by one. Dancy ended the game with a made jumper for the Mariners to win the contest 69-66.

The Mariners continue NAC play on Dec. 7 on the road against Husson University at 5:30 pm.
