Mariners Fall to Nor'easters in Non-Conference Matchup

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse fell to the University of New England 16-13 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
 
How it Happened: The University of New England jumped out to a quick start in the first quarter, scoring three answered goals. Jacob Hintermaier (Macon, Ga.) stopped the Nor'easter run with a goal, before they went on and scored two more to make the score 5-1 in the first quarter. The Mariners answered with five straight goals to take a 6-5 lead in the second quarter. After some back-and-forth action, the Nor'easters took a one goal lead going into the half.
 
Each team opened up the second half with a goal before the Nor'easters scored five unanswered goals to extend their lead to 15-9. Maine Maritime's comeback was too little too late, as the University of New England took a 16-13 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Sam Nichol (Concord, N.H.) led the Mariners with four goals and one ground ball.
  • Brendan Reddington (Wallingford, Conn.) added two goals and three assists to the mix, while seven other Mariners each had one goal.
  • Shea Fogarty led all scorers with five goals, while three Nor'easters each had two goals.
  • Zach McCarthy (Malvern, Pa.) tallied 17 saves in net for the Mariners, while Alex Thoms recorded 12 saves for the Nor'easters.
  • The University of New England held a 60-29 advantage in shots and 42-28 edge in ground balls against the Mariners.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime falls to 2-2 overall, while the Nor'easters improve to 5-3 on the year. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, March 25 at 5:30pm when they take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener.
