Mariners Dominate Trailblazers

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse beat the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 21-9 in a non- conference match up on Saturday afternoon.
 
How it Happened: Alex Stevens (South Portland, Maine) opened the scoring for the Mariners as they jumped to a 3-0 lead against the Trailblazers. The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts answered with a goal of their own, but the Mariners scored three more goals to end the first quarter 6-1.
 
The Mariners scored another three goals before the Trailblazers ended with the 6-0 run. The second quarter ended with a score of 13-2 in favor of the Mariners. In the second half the Trailblazers picked up the pace, but it was too little too late to catch up to the Mariners. The fourth quarter came to a close with a final score of 21-9.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jacob Hintermaier (Macon, Georgia) had five goals, along with one assist, and one ground ball.
  • Stevens tallied four goals and five ground balls
  • Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) added three goals, seven ground balls, and three assist.
  • Caden White (Woodstock, Vt.) and Sam Nichol each added two goals, and Brendan Reddington (Wallingford, Conn.), Wilson Higgins (Glenburn, Maine), Evan Golembeske (New Milford, Conn.), Jacob Belanger (Brunswick, Maine) and Riley Mortin (Harpswell, Maine) each chipped in one goal.
  • Garrett Ruszkowski (Saugus, Mass.) recorded four saves.
  • Maine Maritime held a 42-13 advantage in shots and a 63-32 advantage in ground balls over the Trailblazers.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 3-2 on the year, while the Huskies fall 4-3 overall. The Mariners return to action on Tuesday, March 28 at 7:00pm for another away game against Bates College in a non-conference matchup.
