Harriman Scores Game-Winning Goal in Overtime Against Terriers

WATERVILLE, Maine – Olivia Harriman (Orrington, Maine) hits the game winning shot in overtime to beat Thomas College 14-13 in a non-conference matchup on Monday evening.
 
How it Happened: Thomas College opened up early on the Mariners, scoring four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of play. Harriman stopped the run with her first goal of the night, before the Terriers scored again. Harriman was able to get one more past the goalie in the first quarter to make the score 5-2. The second quarter was more even with Thomas College scoring four goals and the Mariners scoring three to make the score 9-5 going into the half.
 
After the Terriers got on the board in the second half, the Mariners got hot, scoring six straight goals to take the lead 11-10 at the end of the third. The Terriers regained the lead early in the first before Rebecca Caron (Naples, Maine) and Kirra Magaña (Miami, Fla.) scored back-to-back goals to get back on top. The Terriers then scored late in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime.
 
Harriman dominated overtime, scoring within 30 seconds to claim a 14-13 win.  
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Harriman led the Mariners with seven goals, one assist, and one ground ball.
  • Hazel Stoddard (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) tallied three goals, two assists, and three ground balls.
  • Magaña added two goals to the cause, while Caron and Beth Labbe (Brunswick, Maine) chipped in one goal each.
  • Alia Chasse tallied five goals for the Terriers, while four others had two.
  • Kelsey Melton (Great Falls, Va.) tallied nine saves in net for the Mariners, while Lizzy Gotay recorded 14 for the Terriers.
  • The Mariners held a 39-32 advantage in shots, while the Terriers held a 28-26 edge.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 6-3 overall, while Thomas College moves to 0-5 on the year. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, April 1 at 1:00pm when they Thomas College for their home and conference opener.
