Mariners Tame Terriers

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse beat Thomas College 23-6 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Wednesday evening.
 
How it Happened: The Terriers got on the board first, before Trey Marcil (Gansevoort, N.Y.) sparked a seven goal run for the Mariners in the first quarter of play. Thomas College opened and closed the second quarter with a couple of goals, while the Mariners scored six goals in between to make the score 13-3 at the half.
 
Maine Maritime continued to extend their lead in the second half, outscoring the Terriers 6-2 in the third quarter and 4-1 in fourth to claim a 23-6 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) led the Mariners with five goals and four assists, along with a ground ball.
  • Jacob Hintermaier (Macon, Ga.) and Riley Morin (Harpswell, Maine) each added four goals to the mix.
  • Alex Stevens (South Portland, Maine) and Sam Nichol (Concord, N.H.) recorded three goals each, while four other Mariners each had one goal.
  • Jed Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) went 17-27 from the faceoff, scooping up six ground balls.
  • Zach McCarthy (Malvern, Pa.) got the win for the Mariners with 10 ten saves, while Daniel Guarino had seven and Patrick Buxton had five saves for the Terriers.
  • The Mariners held a 68-30 advantage in shots and the Terriers held a 21-17 edge in ground balls.
 
Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in conference action, while Thomas College falls to 3-9 on the year and 2-6 in NAC play. The Mariners return to action on Saturday, April 29 at 12:00pm when they host SUNY Canton to wrap up the regular season and honor their seniors.
