WENHAM, Mass – The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team fell to both Wellesley and Gordon after hard fought matches both ending 2-3.
 
Mariner Leaders

• In game one against Wellesley College, the Mariners were led by Ally Hadley in kills (13), Ila Smith in blocks (10), Katie Albritton in assists (24), and Annabel Frieden in digs (13).
• Makenna Middleton, Sydney Rich, and Grace Jennings each lead Maine Maritime with one ace.
• In game two against Gordon College the Mariner leaders were, Ila Smith and Ally Hadley in kills (15), Grace Jennings and Annabel Frieden in aces (3), Smith in blocks (4), Annabel Frieden in assists (28), and Sydney Rich in digs (16).

Game #1 vs Wellesley College

• The Mariners lost 2-3 against Wellesley College.
• In the first set, the Mariners got an early 3-0 lead with two attack errors and a kill by Sydney Williams.
• The Mariners kept the lead for the duration of the set, with only one tie coming at point 23.
• An attack error and a kill by Ally Hadley ended the set at a 26-24 victory.
• The Mariners received the first point in the second set.
• Ally Hadley and Sydney Williams scored all kills for the Mariners this set.
• MMA lost the set 15-25.
• In set three, the Mariners had a strong start with back to back kills from Williams, an attack error, a kill by Ila Smith, and a service ace from Annabel Frieden to score the first five points.
• Back to back kills from Hadley scored points seven and eight for a 8-2 lead.
• The Mariners lead continues to grow with a kill from Sophia Biggie and Hadley service ace to get the lead to 13-6.
• Ila Smith got a kill for point 25, securing the 25-20 win in that set.
• The Mariners biggest run in the fourth set started with a kill from Chloe Weeks. Then a ball handing error, a block by Sydney Williams and Chloe Weeks, and kill by Williams to take the lead 9-8.
• The Mariners lost the fourth set 18-25.
• In the fifth and final set Wellesley scored the first two points before the Mariners scoring three points that included back to back blocks from Ila Smith and Katie Albritton.
• A service error, attack error, and kill from Williams scored points 9-11 for MMA.
• Wellesley went on a six point run and the Mariners were downed in the last set 11-15.

Game #2 vs Gordon College

• Maine Maritime fell 2-3 to Gordon College.
• The Mariners took an early 3-0 lead in the first set.
• The longest run for the Mariners came for points 11-14. This run started with a bad set, followed by an attack error, service ace by Annabel Frieden, and another attack error.
• The Mariners narrowly lost the set 21-25.
• Ally Hadley scored the first point of the second set.
• Back to back kills from Ila Smith scored points six and seven.
• A kill by Smith followed by two kills from Hadley brought the Mariners right within reach with a score of 18-19.
• Later in the set, Maine Maritime still down by one, had a kill from Sydney Williams, an attack error and a kill from Ila Smith to take the 23-22 lead.
• Ila Smith had the final kill that had the Mariners win the set 25-23.
• Maine Maritime finding themselves down 7-8 in the third set , went on a run to take the lead.
• This run went as follows; a kill by Chloe Weeks, a bad set, kill by Hadley, and another kill by Weeks to take the 11-8 lead.
• A kill from Sophia Biggie followed by Weeks and lastly ending with another kill from Biggie grew the Mariner lead 14-9.
• Gordon went on a six point run to end and win the set 25-21.
• In the fourth set, the Mariners took an early 4-1 lead. This came with a kill from Sydney Williams, ball handling error, and two attack errors.
• The Mariners held onto this lead for the rest of the set.
• Chloe Weeks got the final kill to end the set in the Mariners favor, 25-16.
• The beginning of set five started very back and forth with multiple ties and lead changes.
• With the Mariners holding a 7-6 lead, Gordon went on to score eight straight points to give themselves a big lead.
• Sophia Biggie got the final kill for MMA.
• Gordon won the set 15-8.
