LEWISTON, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team (6-4) fell to Bates College (10-2) on the road with a final score of 77-67.
Maria Barela led the Mariners with 15 points. Barela also secured five rebounds, four assists, and one block.
The Mariners came out strong scoring the first six points unanswered with two free throws from
Sydney Briscoe followed by layups from
Makenzie Monzon and
Evelyn Dagan.
Finding themselves down by one entering the third,
Erianna Moore nailed a jumper to start the quarter and regained the Mariners lead. Moore had a strong night that included 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and one block.
Bates scored five points to open the fourth and grow their lead to 12, 59-47. Bates went on to win the contest by ten. Morgan Kennedy was the leader for Bates, ending the night with 22 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
The Mariners return home for their next contest on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2:00 pm against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
