CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball (5-6,1-2) lost in a nail-biter North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match against Husson University (12-1, 4-0) by a final score of 58-61.
C.J. Lilljeqvist scored the first bucket for the Mariners nailing and three in response to Husson's opening bucket. Lilljeqvist led all Mariners with 17 points where he also picked up four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
With the game tied at 13 a piece in the first, the Mariners went on an 11 point run to take their biggest lead of the game. MMA held onto the lead going into halftime. After another opening half three from Lilljeqvist to start the second, Husson went on a 10 point run to tie the contest at 38 a piece. The game remained back and forth where Husson closed out the game with a narrow three point victory.
More impressive performances for the Mariners include
Curt Heinz 19 rebounds on the night. Junior guard
Markus Ramirez also had a strong showing in the game, ending the night with 12 points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
Maine Maritime continue their NAC play at home on Tuesday, Jan. 9 against Thomas College at 5:30 pm.
