Gabriel Toledo and Company Stuff the UMF Beavers, 3-0

The sophomore scored a pair of goals while the defense recorded its fourth shutout

CASTINE--Sophomore Gabriel Toledo scored a pair of goals and the Maine Maritime Academy defense did the rest as the Mariners earned a 3-0 victory Saturday in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action at Ritchie Field. The host Mariners improve to 5-5-1 on the season, while the Beavers slip to 5-5-2; both squads are 4-3 in the NAC East Division.

MMA Highlights
  • Sophomore Reagan Moynihan made three saves for his fourth shutout (including a combined ShO).
  • Classmate James Baur added three points on a goal and an assist.
UMF Highlights
  • Mohamed Adow led all student-athletes with four shots.
How It Happened
  • Baur and Toledo teamed up for all the offense that Maine Maritime would need when Baur made a nice pass across the goal area to a wide-open Toledo to put the home team up 1-0 in the 19th minute.
  • Toledo scored an insurance goal from the penalty spot in the 55th minute after Baur was dragged down while attempting a bicycle kick.
  • Then 2 minutes and 45 seconds later, Baur tracked down a loose ball and beat a couple defenders to make it 3-0.
  • The Mariners limited UMF to three shots on goal.
Beyond the Boxscore
  • Maine Maritime has recorded three shutouts in its last four outings.
  • The Mariners avenge a 1-0 loss earlier this season in Farmington.
  • Both Baur and Toledo lead MMA with five goals and 11 points.
  • The Beavers' six-game win streak in the series was snapped
Next Up
  • Maine Maritime continues its five-game homestand on Monday against non-conference opponent Colby College, starting at 7:30 p.m.
