Host Mariners Fluster Falcons in Offensive Explosion, 5-1

Kirra Magaña nets a hat trick and Mayako Brown adds a pair of goals

CASTINE--Senior Kirra Magaña registered a hat trick and junior Mayako Brown added a pair of goals to power the Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team to a 5-1 non-conference victory over visiting Fisher College (Mass.) at Ritchie Field on Thursday. The Mariners improve to 6-4-3 overall while the Falcons fall to 2-8-2 on the season.

How It Happened
  • MMA also dominated the statistics in shots (18-9) and corner kicks (10-0).
  • Maine Maritime struck quickly for a 2-0 lead midway through the first half when Brown and Magana scored 1 minute and 41 seconds apart beginning in the 21st minute. Brown picked up a loose ball after a failed clear and rifled a shot into the upper left corner. Magana scored an insurance goal in the 22nd when she battled a defender for the ball and scored from 6 yards out.
  • The Mariners dominated in the first half when they outshot Fisher 15-3 and took a 4-0 halftime lead as Magana completed her "hatty" in the 32nd and 45th minutes.
  • In the 56th minute, Brown made it 5-0 on a terrific individual effort. She split five defenders before cutting to her right to shoot the ball into the back of the net to cap a 35-yard run.
  • Thesing lost her shutout bid in the 84th minute on a penalty kick goal.

  • Fisher, which is based in Boston, competes in the Continental Athletic Conference as a member of the scholarship National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • The Mariners' current four-game unbeaten streak is the longest this season.
  • Today, Magana established career highs of 16 goals and 34 points after recording 14 and 33 in 2023.
  • The teams were meeting for the second time in history with MMA also victorious, 6-0, back in 2009.

  • Brown has a career-high three goals this season, after scoring once in her first year with the 2023 Mariners (she transferred from NCAA Division I Alabama State after her 2022 freshman campaign).
