Women's Volleyball Spoils Thomas' Homecoming with a NAC Sweep

The Mariners won 25-9, 25-22, 25-15 behind a match-high 10 kills from Chloe Weeks

WATERVILLE, Maine--Senior Chloe Weeks put down a season-high 10 kills to lead all attackers to lead the Maine Maritime Academy women's volleyball team to a 25-9, 25-22, 25-15 victory over host Thomas College in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium. The Mariners improve to 10-9 overall and 6-0 in the NAC East Division, while the Terriers drop to 4-11 on the season and 3-2 in the NAC East in the Homecoming defeat.

Maine Maritime Highlights
  • Sophomore Sydney Williams (.529) and junior Ila Smith (.750) added nine and six kills, respectively.
  • Freshman Hannah Tatewho is a repeat North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week selection, had a match-high 11 digs.
  • Sophomore Ally Hadley led all student-athletes with 18 assists and senior Katie Albritton recorded 12. Hadley also had five service aces.
  • Weeks, who hit for a .474 attack percentage, also contributed six digs.
Thomas Highlights
  • Einy Mendez had six kills for a TC offense that was limited to .047 hitting.
  • Halle Ham made nine digs.
How It Happened
  • The Mariners attacked for a .312 hitting percentage, smacking 40 kills on 93 swings with just 11 errors.
  • Maine Maritime won the first set by a whopping 16 points after hitting .619 and holding Thomas to minus-.095.
  • In the second set, the Mariners jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Terriers eventually took their first lead of the match at 9-8 on an attack error.
  • MMA responded by going on an 8-1 run to take a 16-10 lead.
  • Thomas, however, came back with a scoring streak of its own to the tune of 11-3--including five straight--to take a 21-19 advantage.
  • But the Mariners didn't break and finished off the set for a 2-0 match lead by winning six of the last seven points. Smith had two kills and two blocks to key the rally.
  • In the final stanza, MMA had another strong start with leads of 7-0 and 11-1 to clinch the victory.
