Women's Soccer Battles Lesley to 3-3 Tie to Secure No. 3 NAC Tournament Seed

Kirra Magaña led the Mariners with a game-high four points

LEXINGTON, Mass.--Senior Kirra Magaña and junior Mayako Brown combined for two goals and three assists as the Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team settled for a 3-3 tie at Lesley University in a North Atlantic Conference contest at Minuteman High School Field on Saturday. The Mariners end their regular season with a 7-5-4 overall record and 5-3-2 in the NAC-East, while the Lynx now stand at 9-6-3 overall, 6-3-1 in the conference.

  • Magaña finished with a game-high four points on a goal and two assists, while Brown had a goal and an assist.
  • Freshman Charlotte Manes also found the back of the net for the Mariners.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Isa Thesing had four stops.

How It Happened
  • After spotting the Lynx a 1-0 advantage, the Mariners took leads of 2-1 in the 54th minute and 3-2 in the 74th.
  • With just 5 minutes and 59 seconds left in the game, Abby Kalou fed Rudolph for the game-tying goal.
  • Lily Wright and Chagnon combined on the opening goal in the 23rd minute.
  • Manes put MMA on the scoreboard in the 39th minute on a nice passing play from Brown and Magana.
  • Magana broke a 1-1 tie in the 54th minute with her NAC-leading 21st goal of the season.
  • Nine minutes later, Curtaz scored an unassisted goal of her own to knot the score at 2.
  • The Mariners retook the lead 3-2 in the 74th minute when Magana fed Brown.
  • Besides the score, the teams were mostly equal in the statistical department: tied in shots (13-13), MMA led 8-7 in shots on goal, LU had the edge in corner kicks at 5-2 and fouls were 6-6.

  • Maine Maritime will be the East No. 3 seed in the NAC Tournament, which begins next weekend. The Mariners and Lynx will meet again in a NAC-East Quarterfinal on Saturday, Nov. 2 (2:30 p.m.) at East winner Husson University in Bangor, Maine.
