NORTHAMPTION, Mass.--The Maine Maritime Academy women's volleyball team put a bow on the regular season with a split at the Smith College tri-match on Saturday at Ainsworth Gymnasium, where the Mariners got off to a good start with a sweep over first-ever opponent Baruch College, 25-21, 25-22, 25-15), before falling to the host Pioneers, who are receiving votes in the NCAA Division III national rankings.25-12, 25-19, 25-12.
Maine Maritime improves to 15-10 on the season, while the Bearcats slip to 7-14 and Smith now stands at 25-5. The Mariners have won 12 of their last 15 matches going into the postseason next weekend.
Versus Baruch, Maine Maritime was led by sophomore
Ally Hadley who posted a double-double with match highs of 10 kills and 17 assists. She also had three service aces and was four digs shy of a triple-double. Senior setter
Katie Albritton chipped in 16 assists and seven kills, while junior
Ila Smith (.545) and senior
Grace Jennings (.316) added to a balanced offense with eight kills apiece. Freshman
Hannah Tate led the defense with a match-high 12 digs.
Against Smith, Albritton (7 kills) and Hadley (10 assists, 7 digs) led the team.
Maine Maritime will host the North Atlantic Conference East Division Quarterfinals and Semifinals next Saturday and Sunday at Smith Gymnasium. The NAC office will announce the pairings and times soon.
