CASTINE, Maine –
Curt Heinz surpassed 1,000 career points in Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball (10-12, 5-7) 81-72 lose to the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls (9-12, 5-6). Heinz scored 25 to become the fourteenth Maine Maritime men's basketball player to surpass 1,000 career points.

The Mariners outscored the Owls 7-2 to start the contest with
Josiah Dancy scoring all seven for MMA. The Mariners and Owls went back and forth for the remainder of the first half that included 10 lead changes and seven ties. The Mariners went into halftime with a 38-36 lead.

With the game tied at 49 a piece in the second, the Owls went on a seven point run to take the biggest lead of the game for either team with just under 13 minutes to go. UMPI held onto their lead for the remainder of the contest to come away with the victory.

Along with Heinz's 25, he added 14 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks, and one steal for the Mariners.
Carter Rubin ended the afternoon with 18 points, five rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist. Dancy rounded out the top three for the Mariners ending with 15 points.

The Mariners are back on the road for their next contest against the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7:00 pm.
