Mariners Win Tenth Straight Game

CASTINE, Maine– Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball (16-4,11-0) defeated the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls (10-9, 5-5) 92-62 to win their tenth game in a row as well as moving to a perfect 11-0 in North Atlantic Conference play.
 
The Mariners opened up senior day with a layup from their lone senior Holly Reeder-Morning. Maine Maritime never let up from the opening bucket, outscoring the Owls 42-25 in the first half, going into halftime with a 17 point lead. The Mariners and Owls both had their highest scoring quarter in the third with the Mariners outscoring the Owls 26-21. The Mariners remained strong in the contest and secured the 30 point victory.
 
Thirteen different Mariners scored in the contest. Erianna Moore led the way, ending the afternoon with 17 points while adding five assists, four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Maria Barela ended the afternoon with a double-double off of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Barela also had six assists, three steals, and one block in the contest. Grace Huntwork rounded out the top scorers for the Mariners ending the afternoon with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one block and steal.
 
The Mariners remain home for their next game on Monday, Feb. 5 - a non-conference matchup against the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 5:30 pm.
