BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – After being knotted at 12 all with 2:30 left on the clock,
Aubrey Mitchell scored two consecutive goals in under two minutes to lead the Mariners to a 14-12 victory over rival Massachusetts Maritime on Sunday afternoon to cap off Maine Maritime's three-game road trip over spring break. Mitchell scored a tied game-high of five goals in addition to causing four turnovers and scooping up three ground balls.

The Buccaneers came out strong against the Mariners scoring three-straight goals.
Hazel Stoddard was first to find the back of the net for Maine Maritime at the nine-minute mark, then assisted on a goal from Mitchell shortly after. The first quarter ended with the Buccaneers up 5-3 but the Mariners had a huge second quarter, outscoring Mass. Maritime 4-1 to take a 7-6 lead going into halftime.

The two teams went back-and-forth the entire second half with Allie Dickinson from Mass. Maritime knotting the game up at 12 with 2:26 left in regulation. With 1:41 on the clock,
Chloe Coombs found Mitchell to take a 13-12 lead. Mitchell then nailed a free position shot with 30 seconds left in the game to secure the Mariners victory.Â
The Buccaneers held a 38-24 advantage in shots over the Mariners, as well as a 25-24 edge in ground balls. Maine Maritime won 15 of the 19 draw controls with Stoddard winning eight of them.

Melton started in net for the Mariners before
Ella Bowes came in late in the first quarter, making six saves on the afternoon and earning the win for Maine Maritime. Madison Selby tallied three saves for the Buccaneers.

Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday, March 16 at 4:00pm when they host NVU-Lyndon in their home opener on Ritchie Field.Â
