Mariners Fall to Buccaneers in Admiral's Cup

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse falls to Massachusetts Maritime in the 2024 Admiral Cup 21-11 on Saturday afternoon. Jacob Hintermaier and Sam Nichol were high scorers for the Mariners with three goals each, while Trey Marcil dished out a team-high three assists for the Mariners.
 
The first half proved to be competitive with a lot of back-and-forth action between the two teams. The Buccaneers scored first with two consecutive goals in the first quarter, followed by two from Marcil and Alex Stevens to knot the game at two all. Massachusetts Maritime scored on more goal before Maine Maritime tossed two in from Brendan Reddington and Hintermaier to take a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Buccaneers outscored the Mariners 8-6 in the second quarter to take a two-point lead going into halftime.
 
The Buccaneers came out strong in the second half, dropping in seven goals compared to the Mariners one in the third quarter to extend their lead. Maine Maritime rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals in six minutes but it was too little too late as the Buccaneers took a 21-11 victory.
 
Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Mariners 76-35 and held a 52-39 edge in ground balls. Maine Maritime's Bryce Crowell wen 21-35 at the X this game. 
 
Garrett Ruszkowski got the start for Maine Maritime, making 18 saves in three quarters, while Zach McCarthy entered the game in the fourth quarter, making five saves on the afternoon. Ronan Kearney tallied 10 saves for the Buccaneers, playing all 60 minutes.
 
Maine Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, March 20th at 5:30pm when they host NESCAC opponent Bates College in a non-conference matchup.
