CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse fell to NESCAC opponent Bates College 16-8 on Wednesday evening.
Jacob Hintermaier and
Alex Stevens each scored two goals for the Mariners.
The Mariners got off to a quick start, scoring within the first 10 seconds of action after
Bryce Crowell won the opening faceoff and dished it off to Hintermaier for a goal. Bates answered quickly with a goal of their own before Stevens found the back of the net to make the score 2-1. The Bobcats scored three consecutive goals, broken up by a
Jayden Wilson man-up goal before Bates poured five more in. The Mariners and Bobcats went back-and-forth to end the half with a score of 12-5.
The second half was more even with each team scoring two goals in the third quarter. Bates scored two more in the fourth quarter, while Stevens ended the game with a goal from Crowell.
The Bobcats outshot the Mariners 70-26 and held a 42-26 edge in ground balls. Crowell won 13 of the 27 faceoffs on the night.
Garrett Ruszkowski played all 60 minutes in net for the Mariners recording 22 saves on the night, while Andrew Toland made seven saves in 60 minutes for the Bobcats.
Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday , March 23 at 12:00pm against conference opponent SUNY Canton in their NAC opener.
