CASTINE, Maine –
Hazel Stoddard scored six goals to be the first and only Maine Maritime women's lacrosse player to reach the 200 goals milestone as the Mariners defeat Thomas College 19-11 in their conference opener on Ritchie Field Saturday afternoon.

Stoddard broke the ice at the 14-minute mark with an unassisted goal before Thomas College quickly answered with a goal of their own.
Chloe Coombs hit Stoddard for her second goal of the night shortly after before the Terriers scored two goals to take the lead.
Aubrey Mitchell then sparked a 4-0 run for the Mariners to end the first quarter and a 6-3 lead against the Terriers. After a scoreless five minutes to start the second quarter, Thomas College's Emily Wallingford hit the Terriers four goal of contest. Stoddard answered by dishing out three assists on goals from
Lillian Diversi,
Rebecca Caron, and Mitchell. The Terriers answered with a run of their own to take the lead throughout the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third quarter.

After the Terriers took the lead,
Bella Scolaro knotted the game at 10 all and sparked a 10-1 Mariner run in the second half to bury the Terriers and claim a conference victory. As part of that run, Stoddard scored three consecutive goals in five minutes to reach the 200-goal milestone.

The Mariners held advantages in shots, ground balls, and draw controls over the Terriers.
Kelsey Melton spent 60 minutes in net for the Mariners and made five saves, while Bristol Sine also played the entire match and made 18 saves.Â

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, April 6 at 12:00pm when they travel to New York to take on SUNY Canton in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup.
