Mariners Fall Short to Kangaroos

CANTON, N.Y. – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Canton, 20-5 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon. Aubrey Mitchell and Lillian Diversi scored three and two goals respectively in the Mariners loss. 
 
The Kangaroos came out strong against the Mariners, scoring the first four goals of the match before Mitchell was able to find the back of the net in an unassisted goal. Canton scored three more goals in the first quarter, while the Mariners only scored one more from Mitchell, assisted by Hazel Stoddard to make the score 7-2 going into the second. The Kangaroos outscored Maine Maritime 5-1 in the second quarter, taking a 12-3 lead at halftime.
 
Canton continued to extend their lead in the third quarter, scoring six consecutive goals to make the score 18-3. The two teams each had two goals in the fourth quarter to cap off the match with a score of 20-5 in favor of the Kangaroos.
 
Canton won 20 out of the 28 draw controls on the afternoon and held advantages in shots and ground balls. Ella Bowes started in net for the Mariners, making eight saves on the day and Kelsey Melton relieved her in the second quarter, making four saves. Olivia Scott got the win for Canton with three saves, while Erin Anderson played the fourth quarter, making zero saves. 
 
Maine Maritime returns to action again tomorrow at 12:00pm when they face SUNY Poly in another NAC matchup to cap off the weekend.
