Maine Maritime Caps Off New York Weekend

UTICA, N.Y. – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Poly, 16-12 to cap off their trip to New York. Lillian Diversi led the Mariners with five goals on the afternoon.
 
The first quarter was full of back-and-forth action from both teams. The Wildcats struck first after six minutes of scoreless action. Four minutes later, Diversi found the back of the net for Maine Maritime before it was answered by Kaitlin Kopcza. Aubrey Mitchell scored her first goal of the day with two minutes left on the clock and Wildcats hit one with 16 seconds left in the first period to make the score 3-2. The second quarter started with a goal from Hazel Stoddard, quickly followed by a Wildcat goal. Diversi then answered with a goal for the Mariners before the Wildcats went on a four-goal run. Maine Maritime hit two goals in the last three minutes of first half action to make the score 8-6 in favor fo the Wildcats. 
 
Each team scored three goals in the third quarter, with the Wildcats keeping their two goals cushion. SUNY Poly started off the fourth with a goal before Mitchell and Bella Scolaro each scored a goal to get within one of the Wildcats. Poly hit another goal at the 11-minute mark that was quickly followed by a goal from Stoddard to make the score 13-12. The Wildcats scored the last three goals of regulation, taking a 16-12 victory.
 
The Wildcats held a one-shot advantage over the Mariners, while Maine Maritime held a 23-19 edge in ground balls. Maine Maritime also held a 18-14 advantage in draw controls, which were dominated by Stoddard.
 
Ella Bowes played all 60 minutes for the Mariners, making 11 saves on the day, while Jayden Brown made 15 saves for the Wildcats.
 
Maine Maritime returns to action on Sunday, April 14 at 2:00pm when they host the University of Farmington Beavers in more conference action on Ritchie Field.
