NEWBURGH, N.Y. – A strong third quarter led the Knights to a 16-13 victory over Maine Maritime women's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon.
Rebecca Caron carried the way for the Mariners with five goals, going 2-2 on free position shots, while first-year attacker
Lillian Diversi added four and an assist.

It was a game of runs for the Mariners and Knights this afternoon. The Mariners struck first with a goal by
Hazel Stoddard less than a minute after play began. The Knights answered with two quick goals from Victoria Ward, before Diversi netted her first goal of the contest. At the end of the first period into the second the Knights rifled off four consecutive goals to pull ahead. The Mariners ended the first half on a run of their own and
Aubrey Mitchell found the back of the net at the start of the third period to knot the game at seven all.

After Mitchell's goal, the Knights had an important third quarter, outscoring Maine Maritime 6-2 to pull away by five goals. Maine Maritime fought hard in the fourth quarter getting within one goal of the Knights but it was too little too late. The Knights ended the contest with two goals, taking a 16-13 win.

The Knights held advantages in shots and ground balls over the Mariners, while having fewer turnovers in the game. Maine Maritime led the way with eight more draw controls thanks to Stoddard's 14 on the day.

Both squads split time in net, with the Knights tallying eight total saves and the Mariners recording three.
Ella Bowes started in net for Maine Maritime, making two saves, while
Kelsey Melton came in for 18 minutes, recording one save.

The Mariners return to action on Friday, March 10
th against SUNY Maritime at 4:00pm.
