Stoddard Surpasses Career Milestone in Loss to Privateers

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Hazel Stoddard surpassed a career milestone of 200 points as Mariners fall to rival team SUNY Maritime. Stoddard reached the milestone on the Mariners sixth goal of the game.
 
The Privateers came out strong against the Mariners, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Aubrey Mitchell broke the ice for Maine Maritime with an unassisted goal and assisted on another right after to Stoddard. SUNY Maritime answered with six straight goals going into the second period and the Mariners were down by seven at the half.
 
The Privateers continued extending their lead throughout the third period until Maine Maritime went on a six-point run sparked by a goal from Lillian Diversi, assisted by Mitchell. SUNY Maritime hung on in the fourth quarter to win 20-13.
 
The Privateers held a 36-29 advantage in shots over the Mariners, while also controlling ground balls and draw controls. 
 
Stoddard and Mitchell combined for nine of the Mariners 13 goals and four out of their five assists. 
 
Kelsey Melton started in net for the Mariners and Ella Bowes relieved her in the second half, each making four saves on the night. Tori Koenig tallied nine saves in all 60 minutes for the Privateers. 
 
The Mariners complete their three game road trip against Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Sunday, March 10th at 11am.
