CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime women's lacrosse fell to SUNY Morrisville 18-17 in a thrilling North Atlantic Conference (NAC) overtime matchup.
Lillian Diversi carried the Mariners with six goals and an assist on the afternoon.

The Mustangs got off to a quick start, scoring three consecutive goals in the first four minutes of action before
Hazel Stoddard found the back of the net to put the Mariners on the board. SUNY Morrisville score another goal as Diversi quickly answered with back-to-back goals. The Mustangs ended the quarter with three more goals before Diversi scored her third of the afternoon in the seconds to make the score 7-4 to end the first period. The Mariners regrouped after the break and outscored the Mustangs 5-4 to close the gap to two going into halftime.

The third quarter had very even action, but the Mustangs were able to take a three-point lead going into the last period of action. After two Mustang goals, the Mariners came alive in the fourth quarter, scoring five-straight goals sparked by
Aubrey Mitchell to knot the game at 16 all. With two minutes left in regulation, SUNY Morrisville took the lead before
Bella Scolaro found Mitchell for a game tying goal to send the match into overtime with a score of 17-17. In overtime, the Mustangs won the draw control and scored within the first minute of action to win in the sudden death period.Â

The Mariners held a 37-31 advantage in shots and a 13-7 edge in ground balls over the Mustangs. Morrisville won 28 of the 38 draw controls on the afternoon.
Ella Bowes played in net for the Mariners, making nine saves in 60 minutes, while Rebecca Thomas was in net for the Mustangs and made 16 saves on the afternoon.Â
