CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime men's lacrosse beat Morrisville State College, 16-13 in a thrilling Senior Day matchup Saturday afternoon.
Jackson Fitch hit the game-winning goal early in the fourth quarter, while
Jayden Wilson and
Jacob Hintermaier combined for three insurance goals to lead the Mariners to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory.

The Mustangs struck first with a goal within the first minute of regulation. Maine Maritime answered when Wilson found Hintermaier for his first goal of the game. Morrisville then dropped five goals to the Mariners' one, taking a four-point lead early in the second quarter. After talking it over,
Alex Stevens sparked a 4-0 run for Maine Maritime, knotting the game at 6-6. Each team scored one more goal in addition to a last second goal from the Mustangs to make the score 8-7 in favor of Morrisville going into the half.

The two teams continued to go back-and-forth in the third quarter with Maine Maritime scoring three goals and Morrisville scoring two to knot the game up once again at ten all going into the fourth quarter. Maine Maritime dominated the next ten minutes of action. Fitch scored the game-winning goal, Wilson scored his last goal of the match off a steal, and Hintermaier poured two more goals in to take a 14-10 lead with five minutes left in the match. The Mustangs stopped the bleeding with a goal with three minutes left in the match.
Sam Nichol answered with an unassisted goal for the Mariners 30 seconds after. With multiple penalties on both teams in last 30 seconds of the match, the Mustangs scored two more goals and the Mariners scored one to hold on and claim a 16-13 victory over the Mustangs.Â

Maine Maritime held a 21-11 advantage at the X thanks to faceoff specialist,
Bryce Crowell. The Mariners also held edges in ground balls (41-35) and shots (57-50)Â

Both goalies played great for their respective teams.
Garrett Ruszkowski got the win, making 18 huge saves this afternoon. Nathan Weise made 24 for the Mustangs.

Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow on Ritchie Field when they host SUNY Poly for another NAC matchup at 12:00pm.
