CASTINE, Maine – The University of New England scored twice in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer, in both team's season opener on Friday night, at Ritchie Field.
How it Happened: After a scoreless first half, UNE's Nick Reffel found the back of the net in the 54th minute, following a Nor'easters corner kick and commotion in front of the net, to make it 1-0. Bruno Correia added an insurance goal, when he snuck the ball into the top right hand corner for the visitors in the 78th minute, to help secure the 2-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers: UNE held an 11-8 advantage in shots, a narrow 5-4 edge in shots on goal and a 6-2 upper hand in corner kick opportunities.
Reagan Moynihan (Clayton, N.C.) tallied three saves in net for the Mariners in the loss, while Triston O'Hagan earned the victory in net for the Nor'easters (1-0), stopping four shots.
Up Next: The Mariners fall to 0-1 and will resume action on Wednesday, September 4 when they head to the University of Southern Maine for a 7:00 pm non-conference tilt.
