CASTINE--The Maine Maritime Academy women's volleyball team split a pair of five-set matches to wrap up the 2024 Coast of Maine Classic at Smith Gymnasium on Saturday. The host Mariners rebounded nicely to down Saint Joseph's College of Maine 25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10 after falling in a heartbreaker to University of New England 27-25, 25-15, 19-25, 23-25, 15-11.
During the weekend,
UNE went 3-0, Maine Maritime won two of three matches, Saint Joseph's was 1-2 and Southern Maine went 0-3.
SJCME Match
- Sophomore Sydney Williams terminated 16 kills, senior setter Katie Albritton had 21 assists, sophomore Ally Hadley chipped in four service aces and freshman Hannah Tate posted a career-high 24 digs--all match highs--to pace Maine Maritime. Williams completed the double-double with 12 digs, which is a season high.
- For the Monks, Maggie Sylvester and Riley Greenley led the way with 10 kills and 15 digs, respectively. Larisa Comolli turned aside a match-leading four total blocks.
UNE Match
- The Mariners' furious rally fell just shy after dropping the first two sets. MMA cut the deficit to 2-1 by outhitting UNE .333 to .042 in the third set and kept the Nor'Easters at bay in the fourth to force a deciding fifth set.
- UNE's offense was able to get back on track by hitting .444 with the defense holding MMA to .056
- Maine Maritime was led by Sydney Williams spiked a match-best 16 kills on a .222 attack percentage and contributed eight digs
- Junior Sam Urch and Ally Hadley added 12 and 11 kills apiece, while the former sizzled with a .526 attack percentage
- Katie Albritton dished up 26 assists, and Hannah Tate and Hadley chipped in 10 digs apiece for the Mariners, who hit .232 for the match
- For the Nor'Easters, Kassidy Bradshaw posted 37 assists and 13 digs, and Ellijah Hanley had 16 kills (.364)
