Box Score 2 PLYMOUTH, N.H.--The Maine Maritime Academy women's volleyball team dropped a pair of tough matches on Saturday at the Plymouth State University Tri-Match held at Foley Gymnasium, losing a five-set heartbreaker to Wheaton (Mass.), 20-25, 25-14, 25-21,18-25,15-12, and then to host Plymouth State in four sets, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16.
Overall records of the teams after this afternoon's play: Maine Maritime (3-6), Plymouth State (7-0) and Wheaton (3-6).
Sophomore
Sydney Williams, junior
Ila Smith and
Ally Hadley paced the MMA offense with 27, 22 and 20 kills, respectively, over the two matches. Senior
Katie Albritton racked up 67 assists, and freshman
Hannah Tate totaled 38 digs.
Against the Lyons, Hadley led the way with 11 kills followed by Smith with 10 and Williams, 8. Defensively, Tate had a match-high 22 digs while senior
Sydney Rich made 15 and
Albritton had 12 to give the Mariners a huge statistical advantage for the match, 86 to 67.
But the Mariners were plagued by 12 reception errors.
In the finale versus the host Panthers,
Albritton dished a match-high 38 assists while finding Williams (19), Smith (12) and Hadley (9) for open kills. Maine Maritime again struggled with their serve-receive game as PSU generated 20 aces.
Both teams were evenly matched: kills (MMA, 47-45), attack percentage (PSU, .236-.211), digs (MMA, 52-44) and team blocks (PSU, 7-5).
Maine Maritime returns to the court on Saturday, Sep. 21, at Bowdoin College in the final tune-up for the North Atlantic Conference slate. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
