Gabriel Toledo Nets Hat Trick to Help Men's Soccer Ground SRU Seahawks

Box Score CASTINE--Sophomore midfielder Gabriel Toledo netted three goals, and classmate Reagan Moynihan made a season-high nine saves, to help propel the Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference victory over visiting Salve Regina University on Sunday afternoon at Ritchie Field. The Mariners won their second-straight to improve to 2-3-1 on the season, while the Seahawks slip to 2-5.

  • Moynihan added his first career point with an assist on MMA's second goal for added measure.
Salve Regina Highlights
  • Jordan Borges led the offense with three points on a goal and an assist.
  • Daniel Goba also tallied a goal.
  • Borges and Goba had a game-high seven shots apiece, with the latter leading all student-athletes with five on goal.
How it Happened
  • Maine Maritime took a 2-0 halftime lead on Toledo's first two tallies of the day in the 25th and 35th minutes.
  • Toledo scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a shot into the low right corner in the 65th minute, taking a feed from sophomore Dillon Wilkinson.
  • Trailing 3-0, the Seahawks made things interesting late on goals by Goba and Borges just 3 minutes and 16 seconds apart, starting in the 86th minute.
  • Salve Regina continued to press in the final minute with a save by Moynihan off Goba's shot attempt, three corner kicks and a shot from Borges that missed to the left.
  • But the Mariners defense stood tall and was able to clear those dangerous chances to preserve the victory.

  • According to available records, this is believed to be the first-ever meeting between the programs.
  • Salve Regina competes out of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.
  • Toledo--who scored his first goals of the season--registers the 29th hat trick in MMA single-game history and it's the first time a Mariner scored three goals since Dominick Gecoya versus Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Sep. 17, 2022.
  • Moynihan ties his career high in saves as he also had nine at Thomas on Oct. 18, 2023.
  • The Mariners have outscored their opponents 6-2 in their last two outings.
