Bench Production Helps Mariners Sting the Visiting Hornets, 79-41

Jasmine Anderson and Sydney Loring both score 13 points off the bench

CASTINE--Junior Jasmine Anderson matched her career-high with 13 points and classmate Sydney Loring scored a season-high 13, to help Maine Maritime Academy run past visiting Vermont State University-Lyndon, 79-41, in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game at Smith Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon. The Mariners up their record to 9-3 on the season and 4-0 in the NAC-East Division, while the Hornets drop to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the NAC-West.

  • Anderson also hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds to top all student-athletes. She also had two blocked shots and two steals.
  • Senior Sydney Briscoe added 13 points and five rebounds.
  • Classmate Erianna Moore (5 rebounds) dished a game-best five assists.
VSU-Lyndon Highlights
  • Sage Smith netted a game-high 17 points and led the Hornets with seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Kadienne Whitcomb contributed 10 points and two rebounds.
How it Happened
  • Anderson (15 minutes) and Loring (17) gave Maine Maritime a tremendous advantage with depth scoring as MMA outscored VSU-Lyndon's bench 50-4.
  • After Kiara Mack (3 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks) opened the scoring on a jumper to give the Hornets their only lead, the Mariners scored 10 unanswered points to go up 10-2 with 6 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Briscoe scored MMA's first seven points.
  • Maine Maritime led 18-7 after 10 minutes and 44-20 at halftime.
  • The Mariners also enjoyed statistical advantages in rebounds (51-37), turnovers (13-22), points off turnovers (26-11), steals (9-4), fastbreak points (12-2) and second-chance points (12-1).
