Men’s soccer overcomes early goal to beat VTSU Johnson on the road

JOHNSON, Vt. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's soccer team trailed Vermont State University Johnson 1-0 early but rallied with four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 road win Sunday in North Atlantic Conference play.

Johnson (4-5-1, 2-3-1 NAC) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the match.

Maine Maritime (4-2-5, 2-1-3 NAC) answered 10 minutes later when freshman Simon Dietz netted his first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Junior James Baur gave the Mariners the lead for good in the 67th minute off assists from junior Josh Martin and senior John-John Dickenson, and Dickenson extended the advantage to 3-1 with a goal assisted by Dietz.

Junior Aiden Burr added an insurance goal in the 88th minute to secure the road conference victory for Maine Maritime.

The Mariners held a slight 15-13 edge in total shots and an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Maine Maritime returns home Tuesday for an in-state matchup against Colby College at 7 p.m. at Ritchie Field.
