WATERVILLE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team made it seven straight wins on Thursday, sweeping Thomas College 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference action.
After trailing Thomas (3-12, 2-2 NAC) 2-0 to begin Thursday's conference matchup, Maine Maritime (14-5, 5-0 NAC) wasted little time opening up a 15-5 advantage and rolling to a 25-10 win in the opening set.
The Mariners controlled the second frame from the start, jumping out to a 10-4 lead and outscoring the Terriers 14-4 to close out the set.
Thomas battled tough in the deciding set, but the Mariners held on for a 25-20 victory to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Senior
Ila Smith and junior
Sydney Williams led the offense with 12 and 13 kills, respectively. Smith hit .500 for the match, while Williams finished at .524.
Sophia Biggie added nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while junior
Ally Hadley recorded five kills, freshman
Lauren Davis added four and junior
Bre Kerr finished with three.
Kerr also posted a match-high two blocks, while senior
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens handed out 38 assists.
Williams notched a career-high 20 digs in the win, while sophomore
Hannah Tate collected 12 and freshman
Ayla Altman tied a career high with 11.
The Mariners hit the road Saturday to face Tufts University and Bowdoin College at the Bowdoin Tri-Match, beginning against Tufts at 2:30 p.m.
