BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team returned to action on Saturday dropping a pair of non-conference matches against Tufts University and Bowdoin College.
In Saturday's opening, Tufts (16-4) and Maine Maritime (14-7) battled throughout the opening set trading points with neither team able to pull away until Tufts ended on a 3-1 run to pick up a tightly contested 25-21 decision.
In the second set, the Jumbos led early and held on to win 25-16 before taking the match 3-0 with a 25-10 set three win.
Junior
Sydney Williams finished with a game-high 14 kills and nine digs, while junior
Ally Hadley tallied six kills and three aces.
Additionally, senior
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens finished with a game-high 24 assists, while sophomore
Hannah Tate scooped up six digs.
In the finale, Bowdoin (12-8) picked up a 25-13 and a 25-15 set one and two win, respectively, but MMA battled the Polar Bears tough in the final set before falling 25-23.
Williams finished with another game-high 12 kills, while senior
Sophia Biggie posted six kills and senior
Ila Smith recorded five kills.
Williams also added a game-high four aces, while Hadley added 16 assists and 11 digs to finish with a double-double and Tate finished with a team-high 14 digs.
The Mariners host Husson University on Wednesday for senior night with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
