CASTINE, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team picked up a 3-0 North Atlantic Conference win over Husson University on Wednesday night.
Maine Maritime (15-7, 5-0 NAC) jumped out to an early 9-1 lead in the first set over Husson (6-16, 4-1 NAC) and cruised to a 25-10 opening-set win.
In the second frame, the Mariners opened on a 6-1 run before the Eagles battled back to make it 6-4, but MMA rolled off a 19-7 run to take the set 25-11 and a 2-0 advantage.
In the final set, Maine Maritime went on a 10-3 run and closed the match with a 15-5 surge to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Junior
Sydney Williams led the Mariners with a game-high 15 kills, while senior
Ila Smith tallied 11 kills and senior
Sophia Biggie added five. Williams also recorded a game-high four aces and six digs, while junior
Ally Hadley contributed three aces.
Smith collected four blocks to lead the team, Biggie added two, and senior
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens dished out 33 assists. Sophomore
Hannah Tate posted six digs, and Zuber-Stephens added five.
Maine Maritime hits the road Friday to face Lesley University at 6 p.m., before taking on Mount Holyoke College and Bates College on Saturday in a tri-match hosted by Mount Holyoke.
