BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving team opened its 2025–26 season Friday at the Husson Relays.
The Mariners wasted little time getting on the podium, winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.58. The team of freshmen
Dominic Miele and Tim Reda, senior
Fox Fernald, and freshman
Ryan Johnson Rees took first place, while Maine Maritime's teams of sophomore
Nate Gibbons, senior
Aidan Burke, junior Cam Hedstrom, and senior James Creegan finished fourth, and sophomore
Luis Guillen Barcia, seniors
Oliver Cox and
Thomas Murray, and freshman B. Boyer placed fifth with times of 1:53.18 and 1:55.20, respectively.
Hedstrom, Johnson Rees, freshman Matthew Levesque, and Murray finished second in the 200-yard butterfly relay with a time of 1:48.44.
MMA posted third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the mixed 400-yard medley relay. Metzer, Burke, Reda, and Brewer placed third with a 4:17.53, while Miele, Griffin, Gibbons, and Fraga finished fourth at 4:30.95, and Cady, Davis, Guillen Barcia, and Griffin placed fifth at 4:35.42.
Creegan, Fernald, Boyer, and Johnson Rees took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.46, while Hedstrom, sophomore
Michael Ordonez, junior
Jack Davis, and Cox finished fourth at 1:43.40.
In the one-meter diving event, Cox and Ordonez placed second and third overall with scores of 164.00 and 163.70, respectively.
Gibbons, Burke, Guillen Barcia, and Reda continued MMA's strong opening night by winning the 400-yard 4x100 IM relay in 4:08.98, while Cox, Creegan, Davis, and Levesque finished third in 4:23.25.
In the 200-yard backstroke relay, Levesque, Johnson Rees, Creegan, and Miele finished second in 1:48.77. Burke, Cox, Gibbons, and Reda added another second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke relay with a time of 2:04.51, while Davis, Miele, Hedstrom, and Guillen Barcia placed third at 2:20.35.
In the final event of the evening, the Mariners' mixed 400-yard freestyle relay team of Johnson Rees, Brewer, Cantlon, and Reda finished fourth with a 3:50.96, while Miele, Metzker, Fraga, and Levesque added a fifth-place finish at 3:53.28. Boyer, Griffin, Cormier, and Murray rounded out the Mariners' showing with an eighth-place finish in 4:04.39.
Maine Maritime returns to the pool Saturday to face the University of Maine at 1 p.m. in Orono.
