ORONO, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving team went head-to-head with Division I University of Maine on Saturday.
In the opening event of the meet, the Mariners finished fourth and fifth in the 200-yard medley relay. Freshmen
Ryan Johnson Rees and Tim Reda, along with juniors Connor Hedstrom and James Creegan, posted a 1:46.82, while sophomore
Luis Guillen Barcia, junior
Jack Davis, freshman Matthew Levesque and senior
Fox Fernald added a time of 1:53.78.
Freshman
Dominic Miele led Maine Maritime in the 200-yard individual medley with a fourth-place finish and a time of 2:16.67. Johnson Rees finished fifth (2:25.06), Hedstrom sixth (2:31.97) and Davis seventh (2:48.91).
Reda, sophomore
Nate Gibbons, Guillen Barcia and senior
Thomas Murray finished fifth through eighth in the 200-yard freestyle, led by Gibbons, who clocked a 1:58.24.
Hedstrom recorded a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.81, while freshman B. Boyer added a 1:00.37, Levesque 1:03.92 and Creegan 1:05.47.
Senior
Aidan Burke led the Mariners in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.21, while Gibbons clocked a 32.28 and Davis added a 34.65.
Miele swam to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.81, while Johnson Rees followed in fifth at 1:07.21.
Hedstrom added to his day with a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.16. Creegan posted a 24.68, followed by Fernald (24.87) and Murray (27.20).
Senior
Oliver Cox competed in the one-meter diving event, finishing third with a score of 250.80, while sophomore
Michael Ordonez placed fifth at 194.63.
Boyer, Johnson Rees, Reda and Creegan all competed for Maine Maritime in the 100-yard freestyle, led by Boyer's time of 52.82.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Miele clocked a 2:15.89 ahead of Guillen Barcia, who posted a 2:29.00.
Gibbons, Levesque and Hedstrom competed in the 100-yard breaststroke, led by Gibbons' time of 1:13.62, while Boyer posted a 5:16.33 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Hedstrom recorded a 24.00 in the 50-yard butterfly to finish third, followed by Murray (27.59), Reda (27.60) and Burke (27.86).
Cox and Ordonez also competed in the three-meter diving event, finishing with scores of 233.25 and 145.43, respectively.
Burke led the Mariners in the 100-yard individual medley with a 1:04.23, while Levesque (1:04.71), Guillen Barcia (1:09.39) and Davis (1:14.85) also competed.
Cox, Boyer, Miele and Gibbons posted the top time for the Mariners in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:37.18, while Ordonez, Burke, Hedstrom and Murray added a 1:45.30 to close out the meet.
Next up for the Mariners is the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday in Bristol, Rhode Island.
