SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — The Maine Maritime Academy volleyball team split its tri-match on Saturday, defeating host Mount Holyoke College 3-1 before falling to Bates College 3-0 in the finale.
Maine Maritime (17-9) and Mount Holyoke (12-10) traded points early in the opening set before the Mariners built a 13-9 cushion and extended their lead to 17-12, closing out a 25-19 win to take a 1-0 advantage.
Mount Holyoke responded in the second set, opening with an 8-1 run and holding off a late push by the Mariners to secure a 25-16 victory and tie the match 1-1.
The third set was close early, tied at 15-15, before the Mariners went on a 7-0 run to take a 22-15 lead and closed out the set 25-19 for a 2-1 advantage.
In the fourth, Maine Maritime dominated from the start, racing out to a 13-3 lead and cruising to a 25-15 victory to seal the 3-1 match win.
Juniors
Sydney Williams and
Ally Hadley, along with senior
Ila Smith, led the offensive effort. Williams tallied a team-high 14 kills, Smith added 13 with just one error for a .545 hitting percentage, and Hadley contributed 10 kills.
Senior
Hunnie Zuber-Stephens dished out 36 assists to go along with two aces and nine digs, while sophomore
Hannah Tate led the team defensively with 14 digs and three aces. Freshman
Ayla Altman added 10 digs, and senior
Bre Kerr recorded three blocks.
In the finale, Bates (12-8) earned a 25-18 win in the opening set and held off the Mariners 25-20 in the second before closing out the match 25-13.
Hadley led the Mariners with 10 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double. Williams chipped in five kills, Zuber-Stephens finished with 18 assists, and Tate collected nine digs.
The Mariners close out their 2025 regular season on the road next weekend in Vermont, facing Vermont State University Lyndon on Friday at 6 p.m. and Vermont State University Johnson on Saturday at noon.
