FARMINGTON, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference action, highlighted by sophomore
Hadley Stoddard's two-goal performance.
Stoddard scored her first goal in the eighth minute for an early 1-0 Maine Maritime (8-2-0, 4-0-0 NAC) lead off an assist from freshman
Cora Brewster.
The Mariners added the eventual game-winning goal in the 24th minute when Stoddard scored her 11th goal of the season for a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Despite Farmington (6-3-1, 4-1-1 NAC) finishing the first half with an 8-3 shot advantage, Maine Maritime converted two of its three shot attempts into goals.
The Beavers pulled within 2-1 with a goal early in the second half, but the Mariners held on for a crucial road conference victory.
Stoddard finished the day with three shots, all on goal, while Brewster had her lone attempt on frame. Junior
Isa Thesing turned away five Farmington scoring attempts.
Maine Maritime will travel to Brunswick on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Bowdoin College.
