BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer team returned to action Tuesday, falling 2-0 on the road to Bowdoin College in nonconference play.
Bowdoin (8-3) and Maine Maritime (7-3) were scoreless at the end of the first half. The Polar Bears tallied 16 shots in the opening frame, including seven on goal, all of which were turned away by junior
Isa Thesing.
In the second half, Bowdoin broke through midway for a 1-0 advantage in the 70th minute and added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to seal the 2-0 win.
The Polar Bears finished with a 31-2 advantage in total shots and a 14-2 edge in shots on goal. The Mariners recorded both of their shots — each on target — in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
Thesing finished with 12 saves, while sophomore
Hadley Stoddard accounted for both of Maine Maritime's shot attempts.
The Mariners travel to Vermont this weekend for a pair of conference matchups, visiting Vermont State University Lyndon at noon Saturday and Vermont State University Johnson at noon Sunday.
