AMHERST, Mass. — Freshman
Drew Hamilton erupted for a career-high 24 points, but the Maine Maritime Academy men's basketball team fell 84-60 to Rutgers–Camden on Saturday in the Ken Wright Invitational hosted by Amherst College.
Maine Maritime (0-3) trailed just 36-34 at halftime after Hamilton and junior
Jack Banks combined for 24 points, helping the Mariners shoot 51.7 percent in the opening frame.
However, the second half belonged to Rutgers–Camden (3-1), which outscored the Mariners 48-26 over the final 20 minutes to pull away with the win.
Hamilton paced MMA with his 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, while adding five rebounds. Banks contributed 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior
Josiah Dancy chipped in five points and delivered an impressive nine assists, and freshman
Aaron Pensel grabbed seven boards.
The Mariners now shift their focus to North Atlantic Conference play, returning home to host SUNY Delhi on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday at 1 p.m.
