Men’s Swimming & Diving Falls to Norwich; Hedstrom Breaks Program Record

NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving team competed on the road Saturday, falling 124-93 to Norwich University. Freshman Connor Hedstrom highlighted the meet by breaking the program record in the 100-yard individual medley, winning the event with a time of 54.71 seconds.

The Mariners opened the meet with second- and fourth-place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Dominic Miele, Jack Davis, Luis Guillen Barcia, and Fox Fernald clocked a 4:08.59, while Michael Ordonez, Henry Keepes, Logan Santiago, and Cameron Hedstrom posted a 4:23.10.

In individual events, Matthew LeVesque finished fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:31.05), while Tim Reda (1:55.30) and James Creegan (1:59.55) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 freestyle.

Ryan Johnson Rees placed second in the 50 freestyle (23.40), followed by Santiago in fourth (24.48) and Fernald in fifth (24.82).

Hedstrom earned his second victory in the 50 backstroke (24.79), with Johnson Rees finishing second (27.39). In diving, Oliver Cox won the one-meter six-dive event with a score of 248.25, while Ordonez took second (188.65).

Additional top performances included:
  • Santiago (3rd, 25.95) in the 50 butterfly
  • Reda (1st, 29.18) in the 50 breaststroke
  • Creegan (3rd, 5:28.45) in the 500 freestyle
The Mariners closed the meet strong, capturing first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Johnson Rees, Creegan, Reda, and Connor Hedstrom touched in 3:27.11.

Maine Maritime concludes its Vermont trip Sunday with an 11 a.m. meet at Saint Michael's College.
