CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy dropped an 84-58 decision to Colby College on Tuesday night at Smith Gymnasium in a non-conference men's basketball contest.
The Mariners (4-6) stayed competitive early before Colby (7-1) used a strong finish to the first half and consistent shooting in the second to pull away. Colby carried a 39-26 advantage into the break and maintained control over the final 20 minutes.
Maine Maritime was led by freshman
Drew Hamilton, who scored a team-high 17 points, while freshman
Aaron Pensel added 14 points, three blocks and three rebounds. Sophomore
Gabe Hagar chipped in 12 points, knocking down three triples, and freshman
Noah Eckhart contributed four assists to help run the offense. The Mariners shot 44.9 percent from the field and connected on eight three-pointers, but turnovers and second-chance opportunities favored the visitors.
Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, traveling to Bates College for a noon tip-off.
