WATERVILLE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy men's swimming & diving freshman Connor Hedstrom broke the program record in the 200-yard IM during the opening day of the Maine State Intercollegiate Championship on Friday, hosted by Colby College.

Hedstrom and freshman Ryan Johnson Rees, along with senior Fox Fernald and freshman Tim Reda, opened the meet with a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:30.36.

Freshman B Boyer and senior James Creegan were Maine Maritime's top finishers in the 500-yard freestyle, recording times of 5:12.18 and 5:13.47, respectively. Freshman Dominic Miele added MMA's top time in the 50-yard butterfly, touching in 25.75.

Reda led the Mariners in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.65, while Hedstrom highlighted the day with his record-breaking 200 IM performance, stopping the clock at 2:01.75.

Johnson Rees added a 15th-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 26.34, and Hedstrom placed 15th in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.88.

The Mariners wrapped up the session with a 13th-place finish in the mixed 400-yard medley relay, as Miele, freshman Hannah Hills, junior Claire MacDonald, and Boyer combined for a time of 4:08.13.

Maine Maritime returns to the pool Saturday for the final day of the Maine State Intercollegiate Championship.
