Sydney Briscoe recorded a double-double with 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds, to help propel the Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team to a 69-45 victory over visiting Thomas College in a No. 1/4-matchup in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament East Division quarterfinals at Smith Gymnasium on Friday evening.
The Mariners (22-4 overall) will play second-seeded Husson (14-11) in tomorrow's NAC Semifinals at 2 p.m. here, as the Eagles turned back No. 3 UMaine-Farmington, 77-64. The Terriers end their season at 7-18.
Sky Kubwalo led all scorers with 21 points for Thomas, which shot just 31.0 percent from the field. She also led the team with six rebounds.
Maine Maritime senior
Erianna Moore added 14 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and eight assists--leading all student-athletes in the latter two categories.
Thomas took a 3-2 lead, but MMA responded with a 16-6 run to lead 18-9 after the first quarter. The Mariners never trailed after Briscoe answered on a layup to a Terrier three-pointer by Mollie Gray for the visitors only lead of the night.
The Mariners took a 36-23 into the halftime break and were up 57-37 after three quarters.
