Men's Wrestling Competes in First NCAA Championship Regional

The Mariners were represented by four student-athletes

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.--Maine Maritime Academy concluded its first season of NCAA varsity competition on Saturday at the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Region I Northeast Championships hosted by Wesleyan University at Bacon Field House.

The Mariners were represented by four freshmen student-athletes who were making their NCAA regional meet debuts: Trevor Llewelyn at 133 pounds, Gavin Ripley at 141, Kyle Stickel at 174 and Gregory Brunk at 184. Ripley lost a 4-2 heartbreaker to Gavin McKenna of Roger Williams in his opening match.

Nationally fourth-ranked Johnson & Wales (R.I.) leads the Day 1 team standings with 99.5 points over No. 7 Vermont State-Castleton with 97.5, while the host Cardinals are in fifth place with 63.5. Maine Maritime is 18th.
